    I will not sit here while these false stereotypes linger. I propose a protest, fellow students. A protest against people thinkinig we protest all the time. Get off of your desk chairs, turn off your laptops, close your folders. Don’t make me throw some tear gas to get you moving. Get out to Sproul and fight the stereotype of us fighting injustice! We will leave the status quo unquestioned or die trying!
    The protest will start at 1:00 p.m. on Nov. 30 because getting up any earlier is not worth it. We will meet on Sproul Plaza for Apathy Day, a day on which students of all genders and races and religions will join to reaffirm our common indifference toward the rest of the world. Or you can go to class, that’s cool too: It is squarely in the spirit of Apathy Day. We will walk halfheartedly through the streets of Berkeley, eventually stopping at Safeway to get some lunch, then probably dispersing or organizing study groups or something.
    Why unite, you ask? Good question. If life has taught me one thing, it’s that you’ll usually be happiest if you fight doggedly for your own self-interest. Apathy Day will show the world UC Berkeley students are smart, hardworking people who will, contrary to the stereotypes, never shake things up or question the dominant social order. This can only mean good things when your job interviewer sees your academic credentials. So get out there and fight for the most important person in the world: yourself!”

It seems that I’ve always been a huge advocator of “Apathy Day”, showing my enthusiasm by falling asleep beside the office window in Dwinelle, which is located very close to Sproul Plaze, the Mecca of the students who love to protest to express their deep concern with the issues happening around the world. Maybe it’s just me or this culture of “protest-or-you’re-no-Bear.” If the spirit of Berkeley lies in the belief of freedom and equality, then why virtually marginalize or mock the students that enjoy their “Apathy Day”?
